Headlines and News

Bill Goldsborough of Delsea is South Jersey Times boys indoor track Athlete of the Year, 2017-18

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP -- Bill Goldsborough knows that many are going to do a double-take when they see the headline. But it is true. A shot-putter had the best season. A one-event athlete excelled over multi-event participants like sprints and distance runners

Ronn Flaim of Delsea is South Jersey Times indoor track Coach of the Year, 2017-18

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP -- Ripping page one out of the coaching manual, Ronn Flaim placed all of the credit for the team's success on the student-athletes. However, someone had to guide them. Flaim did that as the head coach of the Delsea High boys indoor track and field team. The Crusaders finished the season as sectional and state champions. For his efforts, Flaim is the South Jersey Times Coach of the Year for indoor track and field for 2017-18

Winslow girls win SG3 indoor title while SG2 waits for Wednesday after lap error

A total of 16 sections in Groups 2 and 3 crowned their 2018 champions over the course of the past three days. Yet there's only one outlier. The South Jersey, Group 2 girls will have to wait a few more days to determine a winner. An issue with counting laps in the SG2 3200m race led to the event ultimately being scratched. Per the NJSIAA, the race will be rerun at the Bennett Indoor Complex at 4 p.m. Wednesday to determine which individuals move onto the group championships and which team takes the section title.

Boys Winter Track: Rahway wins Group 2 state relay title, sets US#1 SHR time

The word of the day for the Rahway boys indoor track team was 'execution.' With execution, the Indians could rise above the crowd and, with execution, they could break a nine-year state relay title drought. Rahway followed that mantra through the end of the Group 2 state relay championship and came out with impressive team and individual event accomplishments en route to the program's sixth overall state relay championship and first since 2009.

Highland boys win SG3 title by one point, Delsea runs away with SG2 trophy

The Highland boys indoor track team just needed one point from its 4x400m relay team to take home its fifth sectional title in six years. Pennsauken pushed the Tartans to their limit but the relay team placed sixth, earning the point that would lift Highland to a 47-point total to edge the Indians by one point in the NJSIAA/M-F Athletic South Jersey, Group 3 sectional meet Sunday.

Boys Winter Track: Delsea, Deptford split Group 2 boys championship

The NJSIAA/M-F Athletic Group 2 boys championship will stay in South Jersey. It will just be in different areas. A year after Haddonfield claimed the state championship, a pair of South Jersey teams in Delsea and Deptford tied for the Group 2 boys title as the two sides collected 36 points apiece. Matawan took third with 28 points while Rahway secured the fourth spot off a 24-point performance.

South Jersey Times Track Athletes to Watch, 2017-18

Longer leg extension, explosive hip turn and the shot put rolling cleanly off his fingers. When those finer points are executed, C.J. Licata knows the weighted ball will be traveling through the air as it should. The Gill St. Bernard's senior has been enjoying that great feeling all season, and he maintained that picture of consistency on Sunday at the NJSIAA/M-F Athletic boys track and field Meet of Champions at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
